HUF & Haroshi & DLX
Talk of this collaboration has been spreading for some time now, and following an opening ceremony/exhibition at the weekend, the HUF & Haroshi & DLX capsule collection has finally released, featuring, among many other products, the Hufnagel Pro Haroshi sneaker...
This grand-scale collaboration has been a partnership between HUF, the Los Angeles-based streetwear store started by ex-pro skater Keith Hufnagel, Japanese skateboard artist Haroshi, and San Francisco Bay Area skateboard distributor DLX. As we've mentioned previously on this website, Haroshi is an amazing artist who's made his name creating work from recycled skateboards, and for the purposes of this collaboration, HUF and DLX sent Haroshi hundreds of used skateboard decks which had been skated by specific DLX team riders.
Drawing on his philosophy that there is a significant relationship between a skateboarder and his skateboard, Haroshi then transformed the decks into one-of-a-kind sculptures that were representative of the skaters involved. The resulting works (stills shown below, as well as a video teaser for the launch event), entitled Fire Hydrant, Ramondetta's Arm, Gary, Spitfire Classic, Guitar and Huf-zinger, were exhibited at the opening of the capsule collection release, and have also been made available to purchase.
The capsule collection itself includes a series of limited edition T-shirts, snapback hats, a hooded sweatshirt, skateboard decks, skateboard wheels, and the Hufnagel Pro shoe, all featuring original artwork by Haroshi. The sneaker (shown below) features an all suede upper, a clear outsole displaying Haroshi's wood pattern (a pattern which also features on the insole of the shoe), an embroidered fire hydrant on the heel panel, and black waxed laces.
