Nike & Mark Ward

Even though we were in Spain at the time, we still managed to tune in to the huge sporting event that is the London Marathon. Every April, thousands of runners set out to test their endurance, and in order to celebrate the event, Nike teamed up with artist Mark Ward to create graphics for this special London edition of the Nike LunarGlide+ 3...

As you can see, Ward's artwork adorns the tongue and 'Dynamic Support' wing areas of the shoe (plus an extra 'running food' detail on the insole), with a tonal black upper and a white swoosh and midsole. A regular to Art & Sole, Ward currently lives on the London Marathon route, and cheers on swarms of runners as they pass his window each year. His artwork celebrates the runner's dedication with insider-jokes, such as sweaty sock puppets, breaking walls and Big Ben with legs instead of clock hands.

The collabortaion is actually the latest in a City Pack collection of nine LunarGlide+ 3 shoes which highlight major marathons around the world. Featuring colourways inspired by New York, Beijing, Chicago, Berlin and the San Francisco Women's Marathon, the collection already utilises artwork by the likes of Mike Perry, Hannah Stouffer, Nod Young, Mike Friedrich and Tara D.

As the City Pack is an ongoing collaboration, we'll write a more in-depth piece about the whole project as soon as it's compete. The release information for the Mark Ward London shoe is still to be announced, but as soon as we have more details we'll update this page...
