Puma & Ron English

Fresh from hosting an exhibition alongside American singer Chris Brown, artist Ron English has recently worked with Puma on this six-shoe collaboration, consisting of three Suede and three Suede High silhouettes…

English originally made a name for himself by 'culture jamming' - sabotaging existing advertising billboards to convey negative messages against corporations in the very ad spaces they were paying for. The fine art paintings and sculptures he's now known for, often produced as large-scale installations, blend high-level photorealism with political comments on the world of consumerism - a concept English has termed 'Popaganda'.

English’s collaboration with Puma takes on a slightly more subtle form however; on the rear of the Suede version you can find his signature rendered in a contrasting colour, a feature which also features on the High (although this time on a leather heel pull-tab and inside the small heel panel where you'd usually find Puma’s ‘leaping cat’ logo). On both silhouettes English has incorporated his Star Skull motif, combined with reptile-skin uppers and micro perforations on the toe-box. Each style comes in a black, deep green or burgundy variation, with laces colour-matching the contrast stitching of the shoes.
