WIN: Dunlop Volley & Jon Boam
Continuing the Aussie theme (see our previous post), Art & Sole has recently been working with Australian footwear brand Dunlop Volley on a custom art project to help promote the release of their shoes in the UK. For the project, we commissioned illustrator (and Art & Sole regular) Jon Boam to customise a pair of all-white Volley’s, using an Australia-based theme...
An iconic Australian shoe, the Dunlop Volley has been around since 1939, but has only just launched in the UK. The original shoe design was based on a boat shoe, but they have since been worn by Wimbledon winners, surfers and 'bushwalkers' alike. The Volley has also been referred to as 'the world’s most casual shoe from the home of casual, Australia' – a fact we couldn’t ignore when setting the brief for this project.
Jon Boam’s bold and vibrant response to the Australian-themed brief was to paint each shoe with a slightly different animal-based subject matter; the right shoe featuring a selection of Australia's weird and wonderful land animals, and the left shoe featuring some equally interesting Australian sea creatures. Using acrylic paint, Boam first covered the shoes with a white base-coat before adding the animal characters with a fine art brush.
As part of the project, we're also offereing you the chance to win these hand-painted shoes (which are a UK size 9) via a Twitter competition. All you have to do to enter is follow the two simple steps listed below:
