Vans & Taka Hayashi
Taka Hayashi has once again teamed up with Vans Vault for this Sk8-Hi and Slip-On. The shoes use fabric from American heritage wool mill Pendleton and take influence from Native American styles, a recurring theme in Hayashi’s work.
As Hayashi explains, ‘I’ve always had a connection with Native American art. I’ve been influenced by the bold and graphic patterns and motifs.’
A self-taught illustrator, painter and graphic designer, Hayashi was born in Japan and moved to the US with his family when he was nine years old. He grew up in Santa Monica where the early 1980’s skateboarding scene had a huge impact on his life. He began drawing at a very early age and spent most of his time either skating or experimenting with art.
The shoes are available now, but as with all of the Vans Vault line, they have been produced in limited numbers so can only be found in select retail outlets worldwide.
