Sneaker Symposium

Entitled Sneaker Speakers: The Symposium of the Training Shoe, the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery are about to host a day of talks with some of the most interesting figures and thinkers from UK sneaker culture.

Speakers will include V&A curator of contemporary programmes Ligaya Salazar in conversation with sneaker connoisseur Kish Kash, Thomas Turner of Birkbeck College talking about the social and cultural significance of sports shoes through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, plus researchers from the University of Sheffield exploring how sneakers made the transition to the street and how wearing them can change people’s identities.

Part of the 2011 spring programme, the symposium takes place on Saturday 2 April from 10am to 4.30pm and will be followed by a private viewing of the Sneaker Peak exhibition currently showing at the museum. For further information about the event click here
