A Few of My Favourite Sneakers:    Toby Neilan

Although we've been fans of Toby Neilan's work for years, we've never actually had the good fortune to work with him on a project - until now that is. For the fourth in our series of 'A Few of My Favourite Sneakers', Neilan has drawn his 10 favourite sneakers using a fresh illustrative style that he's recently been developing...

Neilan's illustration generally falls into two main categories; fashion and architecture. His work has included a window installation at Issey Miyake’s London Flagship store, and visuals for the Kylie X World Tour and the Jay-Z Blueprint World Tour (both in collaboration with design and lighting specialists UVA). Other international clients have included Nike and IBM.

Much of Neilan's architectural work is inspired by mid-20th Century urban structures and the innovative forms created by contemporary architects - his rendering of London's Centre Point building has always been a favourite of ours...

It was Neilan's work for fashion label Y-3 that inspired us to ask him to be part of 'A Few of My Favourite Sneakers' and, looking at the images here, we're certainly glad we asked. Neilan's drawn (in no particular order) his ten favourite sneakers especially for us, putting his graphic style and bold use of colour to very good use. In order of appearance, the sneakers showcased are:

Nike Huarache Light
Travel Fox
Nike Free Run
adidas Pro Model
Nike Blazer
Nike Air Max 87 Premium (all leather)
adidas Marathon oki-ni
AIr Jordan 4
Nike Dunk High Stussy
Puma Easy Rider (all leather)

As we liked Toby's images so much, we've decided to add three of them to the Art & Sole shop as the first in an ongoing series of 'A Few of My Favourite Sneakers' giclée prints. Each 600 x 800mm artwork is available in an edition of 50 and is printed on 308gsm Hahnemuhle paper. To see more, or to purchase a print, click here

Thanks again to Toby Neilan for a great set of images, and keep watching Art & Sole for the next installation of A Few of My Favourite Sneakers...
