Art & Sole & Kustaa Saksi
The second in our series of specially commissioned screen-prints is finally here, and it's by Amsterdam-based illustrator and graphic designer Kustaa Saksi. As well as adding the print to our Shop section, we thought we'd show you a little more of Saksi's amazing work here...
Saksi is a Finnish-born illustrator who works from his studio on the roof of an old chocolate factory in Amsterdam. His wild imagination combines with his strict Scandinavian design roots to create strange characters and surrealist landscapes for clients from the worlds of fashion, music and entertainment. For his Art & Sole print, entitled Totem (shown directly below), Saksi has created a beautiful and incredibly detailed totem pole for all sneakers enthusiasts. Available in an edition of 50, Totem is screen-printed with four-colours on to 175gsm Colorplan paper, and is stamped, signed and numbered by the artist.
As well as Saksi's print, we thought we'd show you some of his work for sneaker brand Nike, and first up is an installation piece for Nike's 1948 space in Shoreditch, London. The installation tells the story of Nike's running shoe history from past to present, with some very nice details including a 'City of Feet'.
Also shown below, Saksi created a teaser campaign for NIke which highlighted the differences between men and women's feet, plus an instore installation for the Nike ACG 20th anniversary limited edition K2 Expedition jacket.
