Converse: Made By You
Since its debut in 1917, Converse's Chuck Taylor All Star has become one of the world's most iconic sneakers. The brand's latest campaign, entitled 'Made By You', celebrates the stories behind the Chucks owned by various fans, artists and musicians. Whether hand-painted, covered in mud or worn through with holes, the campaign aims to showcase each pair's personal story - demonstrating the vast potential of Converse's ultimate blank canvas...
For us, the approach Converse have taken with this campaign is a breath of fresh air, so here we've picked out a few of our favourites from the 200+ individual Chucks that form part of the story. In order of appearance, the sneakers shown belong to Ron English, King Tuff, Joanna DeLane, Thomas Midlane, the Andy Warhol Foundation, Cozette McCreery, Leafcutter John, Daniel Hirschmann and Damilola Odusote. Also shown below is the main film from the campaign, which never actually reveals who the characters wearing the sneakers are, but has been shot and narrated in such a way that it makes you feel like you already know their passions and stories. Alongside the main film, a series of shorts tell the stories of individual characters - and we've also included Futura's and Buff Monster's below.
Other elements of the campaign include this interactive 360 degree experience featuring the customised Chucks (plus the stories behind them) of Ron English, King Tuff, Joanna DeLane and Thomas Midlane. Damilola Odusote, who we've previously featured here, was also tasked with creating an installation in London - featuring over 2000 Polaroid photographs of Chuck fans (Converse fans constantly sharing pictures of their personalised sneakers was actually the original inspiration behind the campaign). The anamorphic installation creates the outline of London, giving a different view from whichever angle the viewer stands.
The Made By You campaign is constantly evolving, so keep your eyes on Converse to find out what's going to be happening next
