ellesse & Alex Nash
Last week saw the launch of a two-shoe collaboration between Italian sportswear label ellesse, and sneaker customising Art & Sole regular, Alex Nash (aka Nash Money). To help celebrate the release of these moccasin/deck shoe hybrids, we’ve gone to the trouble of commissioning our very own nautical-inspired photo-shoot...
Combining his signature moccasin style cross-stitch (a style which has been much replicated over the years) with deck shoe interlacing, Nash has recreated the classic ellesse 117 sneaker, renaming it the N117 (the additional N referring to Nash himself). The result, described by Nash as 'casual dapperness', is both a casual and formal shoe with hints of styling from the original early 80s running silhouette.
The N117 sneakers are available in both a fresh nautical-inspired turquoise option, along with a more classic desert colorway. 'Being that my concept of design and customisation mixes formal and casual footwear together,' says Nash, 'I thought it only fitting that each sneaker portrayed that. So the desert was themed on the formal desert boot style - using suede, canvas and an all-over tan colourway - and the turquoise was used to portray the sneaker aspect of the concept - with the use of mesh and bright contrasting colours.'
Collaborative branding is also featured on the tongue label and midsole of the shoes (with the typeface choice for N117 varying on each colourway), and bespoke packaging features the phrase 'Sew Far Sew Good', a reference to Nash's customisation style.
The ellesse Alex Nash N117 sneakers are available to purchase through a specially created microsite, which also contains more information on the N117 project, including further imagery and a video interview with Nash himself
