From The Book: Gravis Art Collective

As the title suggests, our 'From The Book' series is taken directly from the Art & Sole book. Next up is this 2005 collaboration between Gravis and three very well-know urban artists...

Pushing artist collaborations to a whole new level, the 2005 Gravis Art Collective project began life as three original canvas artworks from urban artists Marok (shown bottom), Matt Sewell (shown top) and Delta (shown middle). Each artist created a 200 x 200cm canvas panel, which was then skillfully cut up to become pat of a collection of Gravis Comet Mid shoes.

The artists not only integrated the fabric of their actual artworks but also decided their shoes' style direction, colourway and creative detailing. Gravis involved the artists at all stages of the product development, using the Collective as a testing ground for future artist collaborations. Only 36 shoes were made from each canvas. The project was showcased at a European tour before the shoes were released worldwide at selected outlets.
