The A&S Top 10 of Graphic Patterns

It’s been almost impossible to ignore the current trend in graphic patterns that has been dominating the recent sneaker release calendar - and it’s a trend we’ve been paying particular attention to here at Art & Sole…

The all-over pattern is a trend that, in part, owes its existence to the progression made in sneaker production technology. Long gone are the days when a sneaker needed to be made from numerous different nylon/leather panels stitched together to make a whole – the advent of two or one-piece uppers characterised by modern minimalist silhouettes such as the Nike Roshe Run and the newly released adidas ZX Flux has opened up the sneaker industry to much more than just flat colour blocking.

NIKEiD have even been offering a graphic pattern-based option on a number of their shoes for a while now, and it seems mi adidas (the three stripes’ very own custom platform) are about to release a version of the ZX Flux that allows the public to upload their own images to be used as an all-over print (more to come on that soon).

With so many releases featuring graphic artwork (even if it's not created as part of an actual artist/designer collaboration), we thought we’d show a selection of the best and most interesting shoe patterns here on the blog. We’re sure there’s much more to come from this trend in the future and, of course, we’ll be watching closely to see what happens…

In order of appearance, the shoes shown here include:

adidas ZX Flux - Photo Print Pack
Nike Kobe 9 EM - Pop Art Camo

adidas Stan Smith - Battle Pack
Nike KD VI - 'What The' Pack
