Holly Wales (& The Burgermat Show)

Our friends at the excellent Burgerac blog recently asked us (Intercity) if we'd like to contribute to the Burgermat art project. Of course we said yes, and while we were looking through the impressive list of artistic talents selected to take part, we came across these drawing of vintage Nike sneakers by illustrator Holly Wales.

Wales' client list includes the BBC, Design Week, Fallon, Frieze, The Guardian, The Independent on Sunday, The Telegraph, Uniqlo, Urban Outfitters and Waterstones, plus she also illustrates a regular weekly column for The New York Times Magazine. In 2010 Wales also set up a studio space for illustrators in London called Open with the two main objectives of education and entrepreneurship within an illustration and design discipline.

The shoe portraits shown here were actually drawn from a series of items for sale on eBay, and also shown (bottom) is Wales' contribution to the Burgermat art project. Other artists taking part in the Burgermat event include Art & Sole collaborators Chris Gray, Jon Boam and Rob Flowers.

The Burgermat Show is a one-night-only pop-up burger restaurant and art exhibition held in collaboration with BurgerMonday. A guest chef will be cooking a bespoke burger especially for the event, and running alongside the food will be an art show in which 24 contemporary illustrators and image makers will showcase their love for burgers with brand new artworks in the form of paper placemats. After a three-course meal, diners can either take their Burgermat home or swap it with other attendees to acquire their favourite piece. The event will be held on 27 June at Andrews, Grays Inn Road, London WC1.

For those interested in the art but are not able to attend the event, limited edition A2 Giclée prints of the Burgermats will be made available via the Print Process website on Tuesday 28 June.
