Joost van Brug & Nike

Referencing the speed and perpetual movement of sport shoes, Amsterdam-based art director and photographer Joost van Brug has created this hypnotic series of 24 photographs using a long exposure and various Nike sneakers...

To create the stunning light discs, van Brug placed each of the sneakers on a moving pottery wheel and then photographed them using a long exposue - a simple technique used to great effect in creating these very unusual and abstract images. 'My brother is a sneaker collector,' says van Brug, 'I wear sneakers all the time but I'm not a collector and I don't get why anyone would buy the same shoes in ten different colours. That's why I wanted to explore how much colour is a factor when it comes to sneaker collecting, although in an abstract way.'

The final image below shows all 24 pairs of the original shoes photographed by van Brug which, in order of appearance, include the Lebron 8 'Pre-Heat', Lebron 9 'South Beach', Jordan Future 'Infrared', Jordan 9 'Doernbecher', Jordan 5 'Doernbecher', Air Yeezy 2 NRG, Jordan 5 'Bel-Air', Jordan 5 '3lab5' and a custom painted Lebron 10.
