Jordan Brand & Kustaa Saksi

Continuing the tradition of celebrating the Chinese Zodiac, Jordan Brand recently worked with Art & Sole collaborator Kustaa Saksi to create a custom pattern for the Year of the Horse collection of footwear, apparel and packaging...

The footwear releases from the Year of the Horse collection included a premium Jordan 1 Mid Nouveau and a Jordan Melo M10 - a shoe designed by Tinker Hatfield in honour of basketball star Carmelo Anthony's decade-long collaboration with Jordan Brand. Apparently, those born in the Year of The Horse are known for their love of competition and have a tendency of being both formidable and intensively passionate in their pursuits - the reason why Jordan Brand designers decided to use a ‘Black Stallion’ theme for the design of the shoes.

Kustaa was asked to develop a dark horse-themed pattern incorporating themes of vision, speed, unpredictability and power. The final artwork contains abstractions of these concepts layered with the physical attributes of a horse in a rich graphic exploration of textures, shapes, and color.
