Puma & Hisham Akira Bharoocha

While researching our recent piece on Kustaa Saksi, we happened across this creative collaboration between Puma, Solange Knowles and visual artist Hisham Akira Bharoocha

Singer, songwriter, producer and model Solange (recently appointed a creative consultant for Puma Women's Lifestyle) asked Hisham and two other designers to collaborate on a new line of shoes for the brand. The Girls of Blaze Disc Collection updates the classic Blaze Disc running silhouette by taking inspiration from Brazilian visual culture. As shown below, Hisham’s artwork of linear patterns are combined with rainforest imagery to vibrant and striking effect.

The collection consists of four shoes in total, two of which were created by Hisham, with the third and fourth shoes being created by fashion designers William Okpo and Gerlan Marcel (shoe images shown in respective order).

Currently based in Brooklyn, New York, multi-talented Hisham is an artist, photographer and musician. His current artwork references the melting together of images that happens in the mind while people are meditating, dreaming, daydreaming or simply going about their daily lives.

The Puma Girls of Blaze Disc Collection was released February 2014 and is available now through premium outlets worldwide
