Typelace by Rafael Farias
We've just received our contributors copy of The 3D Type Book by Agathe Jacquillat and Tomi Vollauschek at London-based design studio FL@33, and as well as featuring work by Intercity, the book also showcases this ingenious Typelace project by designer Rafael Farias.
Farais is one-third of the Bumf collective, an ongoing online exhibition that involves the creation of work following rules set by the collective. The Typelace typeface was created in 2009 as a response to a brief set by Bumf: to create a typeface using a single found object. The lace holes on a pair of Converse Jack Purcell sneakers were used as a grid in order to create the typeface, and the full character set can be seen below.
Also shown below is an image of the book itself, which is both a comprehensive and very inspiring showcase of three-dimensional letterforms including over 1300 images from more than 160 emerging and established image-makers worldwide.
The 3D Type Book is available now from Laurence King Publishing
